1. 研究目的与意义(文献综述包含参考文献)
1. introduction1.1background of the research the american dream is a unique cultural phenomenon in the united states, a product of american history and a reflection of the american outlook on life and values. (hyuna b. s growth and the pursuit and disillusionment of judys american dream will be focused on. the thesis will be ended with the summary of the major findings, implications, limitations and suggestions for the future research in chapter five.2. literature review2.1 cultural works that have studied the destruction of the american dreamwhen it comes to the breakdown of the american dream in literature and art, most scholars start with the great gatsby, both the book and the film. although the book the great gatsby was published in 1925, before the american dream was formally introduced. the 1920s was a brief but specific period in american history known as the 'hustle years', referring to the decade from 1919 after the end of world war i to 1929 before the great economic collapse of the united states (fan,2019). several factors contributed to the specificity of this period. firstly, the united states was at the historical crossroads of the old and the new, with the flourishing of capitalism, which saw the country move rapidly from an agrarian civilization to an industrialized modern society (shen, 2019). at the same time, the united states entered the war in the latter stages of the first world war and, instead of being hit hard by the war, made a fortune, turning itself from a pre-war debtor to a creditor nation. the government, which was largely in place at the time, adopted a 'laissez-faire' economic policy, which advocated that the free market should be left to its own devices and that the less government intervention in economic activity, the more efficiently the economy would function. this created the miraculous "coolidge's era of prosperity " (shang, 2013). as a result, the domestic economy of the united states was booming, the transportation, mining and construction industries were expanding rapidly, the electrical and automobile manufacturing industries were burgeoning, and automobiles, electrical equipment, household machinery, processed foods and ready-made clothing were entering homes, bringing unprecedented comfort to the lives of many americans. the real estate trade and stock market were particularly active and some speculators became overnight millionaires in these gambling industries. the amount of wealth became a criterion for judging one's success, and people began to make money blindly, to make fast money, to make more money; to chase after becoming richer, to become richer .... at the same time, american hedonism, spencer's evolutionary theory and james's philosophy of pragmatism took hold in the united states, and the traditional puritan morality and religious beliefs of "hard work and frugality" were gradually replaced by consumer hedonism in the pursuit of personal wealth and the enjoyment of material goods (brittany, 2019).but the great gatsby has been published for nearly 100 years, and the world has changed dramatically in the past 100 years. the great gatsby regards consumerism as an obstacle to the realization of the american dream (shi,2012); in fact, the american dream has not yet been realized due to many other factors, such as racial discrimination, the gap between the rich and the poor, and partisan disputes. in the last two years in particular, the new pneumonia crown has disrupted the global order, and america's disdain for life has become a very important factor. 2.2 other angles used in analyzing zootopiawhile children see the film as a lively and entertaining animated film with an exciting storyline, adults see it as a realistic film full of cultural metaphors (liu 2016). the film is full of metaphors that refer to the social realities of the united states, such as sexism, racial discrimination, occupational discrimination, and inefficiency of government agencies (tan, 2019). past researchers have seen metaphors not only as rhetoric, but also as a way of thinking and a process of becoming familiar with new things. in zootopia, the director uses a variety of familiar animals as metaphors for humans, and the roles and encounters of the animals in the animal world are metaphors for the different roles and encounters of people in the human world. however, the metaphors also have flaws, such as the unconscious communication of potentially irrelevant and even erroneous information(weng, 2011). in order to curb this irrelevance, the author of this thesis will look directly at the personal upbringing of the protagonist, judy, to analyze the problems of her society and the american social reality behind it. referencesbrittany lewis. 2. 研究的基本内容、问题解决措施及方案
1. Research TopicBy analyzing the growth of Judy, this research aims to figure out the reasons hidden behind the disillusion of America Dream. It is only eighty years since the American Dream was formally proposed, but there has already been literature suggesting its over-idealization and predicting its failure. Nowadays, it is obvious whether the American Dream has been realized or not, but new works of literature and art have emerged in relation to it, among them Zootopia. This study therefore aims to explore the failure of the American Dream in a modern perspective and the hidden reasons behind it by analyzing the growth of the protagonist, Judy.2. Research MethodsThe primary method used in the writing of this class paper is documentary research. A document research is the process of reading, analyzing, evaluating and summarizing scholarly materials about a specific work. The American Dream is a relatively abstract yet closely related concept to American life, which is integrated into life and reflected in works of literature and art. The author of this thesis has studied a number of texts that have been widely used to dissect works of the American Dream, such as Tender is the Night and The Great Gatsby, and learned about their common author, Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. A brief comparison was then made between Fitzgerald's views on the American Dream 100 years ago and the American values and status quo reflected in 2016 in Zootopia, especially the growth of Judy, comparing what time has made to the American Dream. The conclusion may be drawn that the American Dream has long since become a reneged promise.
